Frequently Asked Questions¶
Q. I set save_figure = True
in the optional parameters, however, I am
not sure how to pass a name to the saved figures.
A. A figure that is generated in “tsprocess” can be generated based on records of different incidents, where each incidet went through different processing steps. As a result, a file name based on incidents and their processing labels will be a very long name. On ther other hand, it will be tedious for users to choose name for numerous stations (e.g., 300 stations.) In tsprocess, we store figures inside
tsprocess_output
folder. All figures are suffixed with datetime signature, as a result they are unique. Intsprocess_output
folder, there is another file namedoutput_item_description.txt
that includes file names and their details. Users can refer to this file and findout the processing path that each record went through. These details are also added to the bottom of each figure.
Q. show_stations_on_map
command does not render any map.
A. This is a longlasting problem with Jupyter Notebook. You can fix the problem by switching to Jupyter Lab. Please read more on this Github issue.
Q. Each incident has seismic source as an input value. Why we need to add source hypocenter (using add_source_hypocenter(lat, lon, depth)) to the project.
A. Different incidents use different source models (sometimes extended source models). Even they might be slightly different. In the project we need a predifined hypocenter to compute distance between stations and the source of earthquake. That’s why we define a source hypocenter for the project.
Q. I used a name for a processing label and did some processing, then I changed the parameters and rerun the jupyter lab. However, it seems the new parameters do not take effect. I think there is a bug in the code.
A. Whenever you are looking for a record, the program uses the incident name, station name, and later on, processing labels to generate a hash value. If that hash value exist in the database, it will be retrieved. Althought, you have changed the parameters, it is not changed in the database. This is a rare situation. The easiest way is to remvoe the database and rerun the project.
